We're in the Redwoods visiting Humboldt Redwood National Forest. It's located in the area between Myer Flats, "Avenue of the Giants" (truly giants) and Arcata, a little North of Eureka, Ca.on the coast. This area is much cooler, a welcome change from the extreme heat of the southwest. The Redwoods are really awe inspiring.

After leaving Napa we headed north to Redwood country. Peter's cousin, Jane, lived in Arcata for 17 years and, of course, knows the area well.  She gave us a long list of places to see.  I've wanted to see the Redwoods for a very long time and that was top on her list.  It's hard to express what we felt visiting the forest.  Everything is so huge, and it's so quiet. (Peter kept saying; it reminded him of "Middle Earth" and Orc's were going to attack!) The trees are thousands of years old and have survived fires,

floods and the stupidity of man.  Photographs can never do it justice (at least our photographs)!

Another Redwood grove in the northern part of the Redwood corridor.

Trinidad Bay, one of the most beautiful places on the California coast located in the Redwood corridor 35 miles North of Eureka.

We went back to Trinidad Bay the next morning hoping for morning light but it was socked in with fog.

By the time we left Trinidad Bay the sun was shining and we had another gorgeous day!
