We're in the Redwoods visiting Humboldt Redwood National Forest. It's located in the area between Myer Flats, "Avenue of the Giants" (truly giants) and Arcata, a little North of Eureka, Ca.on the coast. This area is much cooler, a welcome change from the extreme heat of the southwest. The Redwoods are really awe inspiring.

After leaving Napa we headed north to Redwood country. Peter's cousin, Jane, lived in Arcata for 17 years and, of course, knows the area well.  She gave us a long list of places to see.  I've wanted to see the Redwoods for a very long time and that was top on her list.  It's hard to express what we felt visiting the forest.  Everything is so huge, and it's so quiet. (Peter kept saying; it reminded him of "Middle Earth" and Orc's were going to attack!) The trees are thousands of years old and have survived fires,
floods and the stupidity of man.  Photographs can never do it justice (at least our photographs)!

I am standing at the root of a fallen tree, which shows the unbelievable enormity of it!

 Feeling the vibe!

Trinidad Bay, one of the most beautiful places on the California coast located in the Redwood corridor 35 miles North of Eureka.

Trinidad Bay
We went back to Trinidad Bay the next morning hoping for morning light but it was socked in with fog.

By the time we left Trinidad Bay the sun was shining and we had another gorgeous day!

In this posting we show on the map an overnight stop in Sacramento (R) to get our dash board radio replaced and then on to Napa/Calistoga (S) wine country, hot mineral springs and mud baths.

The vineyards are sculpted rows of grape  vines, row after row, as far as your eye can see.

It's not uncommon to see hot air balloons soar close by.  This one went right over our RV early in the morning.

We finally gave in and became hat people!

Calistoga had a great little lawn concert in Pioneer Park.  The band was excellent and the evening was just beautiful!

We stopped at the Castello di Amorosa Winery which, like most of the area wineries, has beautiful grounds.  We've found that visiting the stunning settings is worth the time even if you don't do a wine tasting. (But who would do that!!)

Domaine Chandon is one of our all time favorites.  We've come here several times over the years to re-toxify after a mud bath!

Lilly gave the afternoon a thumbs up.

We have been to the mud baths before and would never miss an opportunity to visit Dr. Wilkinson's. I had this picture taken by the attendant not realizing that it wouldn't show the complete mud treatment. This picture was before the mud is pulled up over the shoulders and up to you chin. Head gets a cold wet towel and you sit in the mud detoxing for 15 minutes. The mud is 107 degrees and the most relaxing experience I have ever had.
